The Telethon

The Telethon and the Max Kolb Scholarship were created to honor Hofstra film student Max Kolb, who died in 2001. The telethon, which is produced and directed exclusively by television students, has raised more than $24,000 for scholarships for Hofstra film students. The original telethon was a collective collaboration between Max's friend Laura Fu and Radio/Television/Film Professor Dr. Peter Gershon. While it originally aired with a number of campus-based talents, the 2008 telethon included performances by many local bands.
The money raised from the telethon is the only source of funds for the Max Kolb Scholarship fund. The film students who receive the scholarship are given checks to offset the production costs of their junior or senior films. Previous winners, Liliana Candelario and Luis Servera, have gone on to produce films that have aired on the Independent Film Channel. This year's telethon will be held on May 3, 2009 from 10:00pm to 12:00am.  You can view this year's Telethon on Hofstra Channel 35 or online at streamwrhu.net for a list of items view our photo album.
